June 12: Dublin to Laragh
Arrived in Dublin, got our rental car and headed
for Glendalough National Park. Our first stay was a cottage on a small lane
about 2 km from Laragh.
A point of some anxiety:
all of the roads are narrow. We have a rental car with manual shift. The
shift is on the left side of the driver; the driver is on the right side; and
we drive on the left side. All the elements for a scary ride. Allen drove over the curb numerous times, but
so far has not hit a car or wall.
We decided to walk on the cliffs in Bray. We wandered around
in Bray, but did end up a cute little area right on the Irish Sea and
walked up over the sea. Quite lovely and met our first Irish residents.
We then drove on out to Kilmacago, down to Roundwood to
Laragh. We had some problems finding our
cabin and realized that we had mistaken our days, but our cabin owner had left
the gate unlocked and the key in the cabin.
We went back up to Laragh and talked to a store owner who phoned the
owner. All was well and we returned to the cabin. They don’t seem to be concerned with people
breaking into their property. We have a
lovely cabin fully furnished for two days. We went back in for dinner at a lovely
restaurant, Wicklow Restaurant, and returned for breakfast also!
